Basic Obedience: Manners For Your Family Companion
Requirements for attending class: Your dog should be current on vaccinations as recommended by your licensed veterinarian.
Class description: This 6 week class (1st night no dogs) for dogs 21 weeks and older will cover basic obedience skills including attention and focus, sit, down, stand, stay, come, loose leash walking, leave it, and go to your mat. It will also discuss how dogs learn and common problem behaviors such as barking and jumping up. As part of the class you will also receive the book “Family Friendly Dog Training: A Six Week Program for You and Your Dog” by McConnell and Moore, and the booklet “How to Be the Leader of the Pack and Have Your Dog Love You for It!” by Patricia McConnell.
What to bring to class: Proof of vaccinations, a flat buckle or limited slip/martingale collar or harness, a 4-6 foot leather or fabric leash (retractable leashes are not suitable for training), lots of tiny soft treats that your dog can eat in 1 gulp, 2-3 of your dog’s favorite toys, a blanket or mat (crate pads or bath mats work well), a small water dish, and a copy of your receipt showing payment for the class.
Note: Aggressive and/or reactive dogs are not appropriate for group classes. If you are having difficulty with these issues I am can assist you with more suitable training options.
